- You may want to reconsider what you are looking for. Business expenses can be taken off your taxes. That said, if you do need free, you may try turbocash (open source) or microsoft office accounting (there is a free version of it). You may also google quickbooks replacement, although many of the programs discussed are targeted towards linux, some others may have windows versions out there. (I'm assuming you're on Windows anyway.) The problem is that a business-oriented software package is not likely to be free, since it is used by businesses, which, by definition, are in the pursuit of making money. While you can get a free software package to do almost anything (especially for personal tasks) some of the paid versions can do a lot more for you and be well worth the investment. For example one of the benefits of Quickbooks is that it comes with a universe of connected services (payroll, taxes, etc) that can hook into it and perform much of your financial administration nearly automatically, so once you are beyond a shoestring budget it may be worth spending the money to get access to those resources.
